Opening Bell: Sensex Falls 345 Points, Nifty 50 Drops 109 Points as West Asia Tensions Weigh on Markets

At 9:19 AM, the Sensex was trading 345 points lower, down 0.44 per cent at 77,835.80. The Nifty 50 declined 109 points, or 0.45 per cent, to 24,289.80.

Indian benchmark indices opened lower on Wednesday as renewed geopolitical tensions in West Asia weighed on investor sentiment. The decline came after the U.S. launched retaliatory strikes and reinstated oil sales restrictions on Iran, raising concerns over crude oil supply and global market stability.

At 9:19 AM, the Sensex was trading 345 points lower, down 0.44 per cent at 77,835.80. The Nifty 50 declined 109 points, or 0.45 per cent, to 24,289.80.

In the broader market, mid and Small-Cap stocks also witnessed selling pressure. The Nifty MidCap index fell 0.39 per cent, while the Nifty SmallCap index declined 0.55 per cent during early trade.

Among sectors, the Nifty Oil and Gas index was the biggest laggard as concerns over crude oil prices and supply disruptions impacted sentiment. Meanwhile, the Nifty Pharma index outperformed the broader market and showed relative strength in early trading.
