Choppy Indices End On A Positive Note

It was a choppy session today as indices witnessed some directionless movement following the first day of July future expiry. Most of the sectors ended the day on a mixed note. Metals saw some profit booking of around 170 points, however IT and Health Care surged more than 200 points. At the closing bell, the Nifty index was up by 15 points at 7508 and Sensex closed higher by 37 points at 25099.
The Indian markets witnessed a directionless scenario on the first day of July future expiry. On the sectoral front, Metals, Auto and Bankex were all caught in a bear grip. On the other hand, IT and Health Care provided good support to the indices. As a result, the Nifty saw an up-move by 15 points at 7508 and Sensex was up by 37 points at 25099.
The advance-decline ratio on NSE was positive, as the day ended with 1992 shares in green and 1586 shares in the red zone.
Top Nifty Gainers: Sun Pharma gained 4.05% in today’s trade, followed by TCS, Tech Mahindra, HCL Tech and Power Grid.
Top Nifty Losers: United Spirits closed the day lower by 3.33%, followed by UltraTech Cement, BHEL, Hindalco and Bharti Airtel.
Most of the sectoral indices closed on a mixed note. Metals stock witnessed perpendicular fall in today’s trading session and went down by around 170 points. Bankex and Auto were also hammered in this scenario and saw down move of around 200 points each. However mid-caps and small-caps closed on the positive side. IT and Health Care closed to provide good support to the indices.
All the major Asian markets had a negative session on the bourses today and ended the day in the negative territory. The Nikkei witnessed down move by 213 points, the HangSeng market closed down by 23 points, while Taiwan and Strait Times closed on the negative side as well.
Buzzer: United Spirits was down by more than 3% on the bourses today and closed down at the technical level of Rs 2500. If the stock opens below this level, it may touch Rs 2470/2440 mark in the next few sessions.
Nifty future consolidates in the range of 7500-7550. Monday’s opening may decide further move.
