The markets broke a two-day losing streak to end on a confident note due to the return of stability on the global front and short-covering in the derivatives segment. The sectoral indices as a whole closed on a mixed note. The main gainers for the day are the FMCG, Power and Capital Goods indices. The main draggers are the Oil & Gas, Realty and Consumer Durables indices. The Sensex closed the day in green gaining 46.71 points or 0.26 percentage points to close at 18,226.35. Nifty ends the day at 5477.90 gaining 15.55 points or 0.28 percentage points. Market breadth was negative with 1,328 advances against 1,588 declines on BSE. On the global front, European stocks rose, with the Stoxx Europe 600 Index rebounding from a five-week low, as profits at companies from Credit Agricole SA to L’Oreal SA offset concern about the economy. Asian shares and U.S. futures gained.
