Nifty Holds the 8600 mark, Small Caps Recover

The Indian markets witnessed volatile trades in today’s session. Indices almost recovered total loss, as Small-Caps, Oil & Gas and Healthcare  saw a good amount of buying at closing buzz. However the banking stocks remain under selling pressure and also closed their respective support levels. The Nifty ended with nominal loss of 6 points to close at 8603 and Sensex ended in red mark, down by 43 points at 28420.

However the banking stocks remain under selling pressure and also closed their respective support levels. The Nifty ended with nominal loss of 6 points to close at 8603 and Sensex ended in red mark, down by 43 points at 28420.

The advance-decline ratio ended on the positive side in the closing session. On the NSE, 1542 shares closed in green, while 1285 shares ended the day in red.

Top 5 Nifty Gainers: Ultra Tech Cement closed the day as the top gainer, up by 4.04%. Asian Paints, BPCL, Hindalco and Grasim were the others that ended on a higher note.

Top 5 Nifty Losers: PNB closed the day as the top loser, down by 2.42%, followed by Bank of Baroda, ACC, Cairn India and Tata Power.

On the sectoral front 9 of 13 sectors closed in red. Oil & Gas, IT and Healthcare ended as the top gainers for the day, up around 50 points each. Consumer Durables, Mid-caps and Small-Caps indices were up around 30 points each. However Bank and Metal were down in the range of 45-60 points. 

In the Asian markets, Hang Seng closed down by 10 points. Taiwan ended lower by 70 points. Shanghai Composite and Straits Times ended on a positive note too.

Buzzers: BPCL surged by 2.5% and hit a new 52-week intraday high at 968.30. The scrip crossed its physiological level of Rs 960 and closed around its major hurdle. Going ahead, if the stock breaks Rs 970 level may see further up-move in the counter. 

The Nifty Future closed above 8600 level indicating some positive trade if it sustains above 8580 levels for tomorrow’s trading session.
