Festive Season fuels Auto Sales Growth In Oct

Car sales in India grew for the 12th month in a row in October on the back of the festive season, lower interest rates on car loans, coupled with special offers rolled out ahead of Diwali. In the commercial vehicle segment which continued to build on its decent performance in October. In this report we take a look at some of the major auto manufacturers and give you a detailed report on their sales during this festive October.

Maruti Suzuki India: Maruti Suzuki India, the country's largest carmaker, reported a 29.1 per cent rise in total sales at 1,34,209 units last month as against 1,03,973 units in October 2014. The company said its domestic sales increased 24.7 per cent during the month to 1,21,063 units as against 97,069 units in October 2014. The volumes were led by robust growth in compact car models, including Swift, Ritz, Celerio, Dzire and the recently launched Baleno.

Tata Motors: Tata Motors reported one per cent growth in total sales at 43,486 vehicles for October 2015 compared to 42,862 units in the same month of last year. In the passenger vehicle segment, Tata Motors recorded 11 per cent Y-o-Y growth at 12,798 units in the month under review, compared to 11,511 units. The growth trend was driven by the cars segment, specifically the new launches. The sales of passenger cars in October 2015 were higher by 15 per cent at 11,049, compared to 9,594, in October 2014 where as UV sales declined by 9 per cent at 1,749, in October 2015.

Mahindra & Mahindra: Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) has reported 20 per cent Y-o-Y growth in total sales of 51,383 units in the month of October 2015. It had sold 42,780 units in the same month year ago. In the domestic market, sales were up by 21 per cent to 48,815 units last month as against 40,278 units in October 2014. Exports were up three per cent at 2,568 vehicles as against 2,502 units in the same period a year ago. The growth is backed by an excellent response garnered from the recently launched TUV300 as well as brands such as XUV500, Scorpio, Bolero and pickups.

Its tractor sales in October fell 12 per cent Y-o-Y to 28,081 units, because of the weakness of monsoon rains vital for much of the country's agriculture.

TVS Motor: TVS Motor's sales rose to 2,74,622 units in October, compared to 2,41,044 in the same month last year. Its exports rose 20 per cent to 41,682 units. Total two-wheeler sales grew 14 per cent Y-o-Y to 2,64,112 units last month. TVS Motor also manufactures three-wheelers. Domestic two-wheeler sales were at 2,31,491 units as against 2,04,294 units last year an increase of 30 per cent.

Bajaj Auto: Bajaj Auto reported 9 per cent fall in sales for the month of October 2015 at 3,52,822 units as compared to 3,86,017 units sold in October 2014. The company’s motorcycles total sales for the month of October 2015 declined by 8.4 per cent and stood at 3,08,733 units as compared to 3,36,923 units in the same month last year.

Ashok Leyland: Commercial vehicle manufacturer Ashok Leyland has registered total sales growth of 17 per cent at 9,804 units for the month of October 2015 as against 8,402 units for corresponding month last year. Total medium and heavy commercial vehicles sale stood at 7,177 units in October 2015, a growth of 22 per cent. The company sold 2,627 light commercial vehicles last month, a growth of 4 per cent when compared with October 2014.

Eicher Motors: Eicher Motors reported 73 per cent sales growth in Royal Enfield motorcycle in last month. It sold 44,522 units (domestic 44,138 units, exports 384 units) as against 26,039 units (domestic 25,510 units, exports 529 units) sold during October 2014. The company has logged cumulative sales (including Volvo Eicher) of 371,590 units at the end of October 2015 as against 246,415 units sold during corresponding period the previous year.
