A very cautious way thats how the markets behave on Wednesday: NTPC accumulates strength

The NSE 50 and the BSE 30 indices opened minorly in positive but remained flat till the end of day’s trades. There were no major triggers to take them in any direction as such. The Nifty ended 1 point higher on 7437; while the Sensex was up by 6 points at 24492. The indices ended up by 0.02% each.

The advance-decline ratio ended on the negative side in the closing session. On the NSE, 1370 shares closed in the green, while 1192 shares ended the day in the red.
Top 5 Nifty Gainers: NTPC closed with the highest gains, up by 4.2%. Power Grid; Dr. Reddy’s Lab; Idea Cellular; and PNB were among the others trading in the positive.
Top 5 Nifty Losers: BHEL finished the day down by 3.8%, followed by Ambuja Cement; Asian Paints;Tech Mahindra; and HUL.
9 out of the 13 sectors closed in the green. Healthcare was the top gainer up by 108 points. This was followed by Mid-Caps and Small-Caps, which were up by 30 points and 61 points respectively. IT, Metals and Auto gained around 25 points each. However Capital Goods, Consumer Durables and Bankex were seen trading in the negative for the day.
The Nikkei was the top gainer among its Asian peers, gaining 455 points. Hang Seng was up by 191 points, and Shanghai and Taiwan Weighted also remained in the green.
Buzzer: NTPC the stock was being hammered over the past few days. While in today’s trade, it saw some strength to move up by 4.2% and close at Rs 143.75.
The Nifty traded in a very narrow range for today’s session. Tomorrow’s opening may provide some direction to the index.
