Markets Retain Gains to Close the Day on a Positive Note

DSIJ Intelligence / 15 Sep 2010

 Post Market Summary

The benchmark indices moved higher by almost a percent to make it seven days in a row. And there were no perceptible signs of tiredness, leave alone any profit-booking, atleast as yet. The main gainers today are the IT, Oil & Gas and Teck indices. The only index that closed with a shade in red is the Auto index. The Sensex closed the day in green gaining 155.15 points or 0.80 percentage points to close at 19,502.11.  Nifty ends the day at 5860.95 gaining 65.40 points or 1.13 percentage points. Market breadth was negative with 1,253 advances against 1,702 declines on BSE. On the global front, Japan intervened in foreign exchange markets for the first time in six years to stem economic damage from the surging yen, pushing its currency sharply lower and lifting Tokyo stocks by almost 3 per cent. Other Asian markets also edged higher, with the exception of China. On the other hand, the European bourses are having an absolutely flat session of trade ahead of fresh economic data, including the British jobless numbers and euro zone inflation figures, due later in the day.
