Budget 2016: Irrigations expenditure at Rs 86,500 crore; Jain Irrigation up 5 per cent

Government has earmarked Rs 86,500 crore for irrigation under the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojana. Total allocation for agriculture for the coming fiscal is to be Rs 35,984 crore.

89 irrigation projects are to be fast tracked by the government on a priority. Out of this 30 projects are to be completed by FY17. A dedicated fund by NABARD with an initial corpus of Rs 20,000 crore is to be introduced. E-platforms are to be set up to connect wholesale agriculture markets.
Rs 1500 crore loan subsidy is to be given out to the agricultural sector. Rs 5500 crore crop insurance allocation is to be done. Soil Health Card scheme will be implemented in more states with a fund allocation of Rs 368 crore.
