BHEL commissions thermal power project in Telangana

Bharat Heavy Electricals (BHEL) commissioned a 600 MW coal based unit at Singareni Thermal Power Project in Adilabad district of Telangana. The unit has been commissioned at the upcoming 2x600 MW Singareni Thermal Power Project (TPP) located at same place.

According to the company’s management, the project is being developed by Singareni Collieries Company (SCCL). SCCL is the India's second largest coal mining company. After commissioning thermal plant for BHEL, SSCL built up its diversified into the power generation business.

BHEL commissioned second thermal plant in Telangana within a short span of three months. Earlier in December 2015, the company had commissioned a 600 MW thermal power plant at Kakatiya in Telangana. The second unit of Singareni TPP is also in an advanced stage of construction and is expected to be commissioned in near term.

BHEL’s new TPP consists of 4 cylinder turbine, which is designed in-house. The company has contracted about 21 sets of 600 MW each. Out of which 15 have already been commissioned. The company contributes about 85 per cent of the coal based power stations of 5180 MW in Telangana's Power Sector. The Telangana government recently placed orders on BHEL for executing around 6000 MW of thermal power projects in the state on Engineering Procurement Construction (EPC) basis.

The company operates in two segments viz. Power and Industry. BHEL has successfully established higher rated units like 600 MW, 660 MW, 700 MW and 800 MW thermal sets, having a high degree of native manufacturing. The company serves projects for industries such as power, transmission, industry, transportation, renewable energy, oil and gas, and defense.

On March 23, the share price of BHEL decreased by 0.17 per cent and closed at Rs 116.55 on bourses.
