Markets witnessed choppy action, ended on lower note

The Indian markets witnessed choppy trades for Tuesday's session. The Auto, Banking and Metal stocks have shown good amount of recovery, however indices like Healthcare and Capital Goods have closed in negative territory. The Nifty ended down by 18 points at 7597; and Sensex was down 65 points at 24900. The indices ended the day lower by 0.24-0.26 per cent each.

The Indian markets witnessed choppy trades for Tuesday's session. The Auto, Banking and Metal stocks have shown good amount of recovery, however indices like Healthcare and Capital Goods have closed in negative territory. The Nifty ended down by 18 points at 7597; and Sensex was down 65 points at 24900. The indices ended the day lower by 0.24-0.26 per cent each.

The advance-decline ratio ended on the negative side. On the NSE, 943 shares closed in green, while 1695 shares were in the red.

Top 5 Nifty Gainers: Tata Motors closed the day with top gains, up by 2.5%. Maruti Suzuki, Idea Cellular, Tata Steel and Reliance were among the other key gainers.

Top 5 Nifty Losers: Lupin was the top loser, down by 6.2%, followed by Cipla, Dr Reddys Labs, GAIL and BHEL, which were among the other key losers.

By the end of the day, 9 out of 13 sectors remained in the red zone. Healthcare was the top loser, down by 391. Capital Goods and IT were down by 125 points and 45 points respectively. However Auto ended on a positive note, up by 156 points. While , Bankex, Metals and Oil & Gas closed nominally in the positive.  

The Asian markets closed on a mixed note. The Taiwan market was the top loser, down by 73 points. Nikkei also ended lower by 30 points. Hang Seng and KOSPI ended with marginal gains.

Buzzers: Lupin crashed by over 6.2% today and made a low of Rs 1294. If it continues to sustain below Rs 1300, it may see more downward moves.

The Nifty index was strongly volatile on both sides. The 7650 level will be a pivot for the next trading session.
