Indices Struggle: SBI Surges

In the last hours of trade, the markets, which were trading below yesterday’s closing, witnessed some profit booking to close flat on a negative note. The Auto and Bankex were leading the day; however indices like IT, FMCG, Consumer Durabales and FMCG ended in the negative territory.

The Nifty took a U-turn and sank below the 7900 level, down by 12 points, while the Sensex closed at 25838 down by 42 points. Both the indices ended lower by -0.16 per cent.
The advance-decline ratio ended on the negative side at the end of day. On the NSE, 1252 shares closed in the green; while 1310 shares ended the day in red.
Top 5 Nifty Gainers: Maruti Suzuki closed the day as the highest gainer, up by 2.9%, followed by SBI, Bank Of Baroda, NTPC and Axis Bank.
Top 5 Nifty Losers: HUL ended lower by 2.2%. Asian Paints, HDFC, Kotak Mahindra and Sun Pharma were the others ending in losses.
5 out of the 13 sectors ended on a positive note. Auto was the strongest gainer, up by 12 points, while Bankex and Capital Goods saw an upmove by 83 points and 31 points respectively. The Mid-Cap and Small-Caps were nominally up around 10 points. However Consumer Durables, IT, FMCG and Healthcare witnessed profit booking on the higher side, ending on the negative mark.
The Asian markets closed the day in the mix. Nikkei was the top gainer, up by 208 points. The Hang Seng lost 155 points. Others like the Taiwan, Straits Times and KOSPI were also in the negative.
Buzzers: The shares of Cyient saw a free fall, dropping by as much as 5.7% to Rs 454. If the stock closes below Rs 450 mark, it may see more selling.
From last few trading sessions, the Nifty could not manage to stay above 7950 and could not cross the technical level of 8000. If it continues with the current scenario, it may see 7850/7770 levels soon.
