Bharti Airtel Beats Street Expectations

Telecom giant Bharti Airtel posted its Q4FY16 results on Wednesday. Company posted better than expected results amid increased usage of data and voice services irrespective of service rate pressures and higher interest costs.

Telecom giant Bharti Airtel posted its Q4FY16 results on Wednesday. Company posted better than expected results amid increased usage of data and voice services irrespective of service rate pressures and higher interest costs.

Company’s consolidated Total Income from Operations for Q4FY16 came in at Rs 24983.1 crore as against Rs 24103.4 crore an increase of 3.6 per cent. EBITDA rose 8 per cent at Rs 9135 crore as against Rs 8461.2 crore in the last quarter. EBITDA margin stood at 36.5 per cent as against 35.1 per cent in the last quarter.

Company’s interest expenditure too rose 22.8 per cent at Rs 1715.9 crore as compared to RS 1397.1 crore. However, Tax expenditure was declined to Rs. 1076.2 crore a decrease of 20.3 per cent. Net Profit rose 15 per cent from Rs 1116.9 crore for Q3FY16 to Rs 1290.3 crore.

The Year on Year (YOY) results show that, Company’s consolidated Revenues rose 8.4 per cent from Rs 23015.5 crore in the same quarter last year. EBIDTA of company rose by 12.6 per cent from Rs 8112.3 crore. EBITDA margin remained in line. Year on year Net profit (PAT) remained stable with an increase of just 2.8 per cent.

On yearly basis Bharti Airtel posted consolidated revenues from operations of Rs 96532.1 crore for the year ended March 2016 compared to Rs 92039.4 crore in March 2015 an increase of 4.9 per cent. Net profit too rose from Rs 5183.5 crore in FY15 to 5484.2 crore in FY16 an increase of 5.8 per cent. 

Bharti Airtel is established by Sunil Bharti Mittal and promoted by Bharti Enterprises and Singtel. It operates in 20 countries across South Asia, Africa and the Channel islands. Its subsidiaries include airtel digital TV, airtel Bangladesh, Airtel India, Airtel Sri Lanka, Airtel Africa.

The stock was the top Nifty50 gainer on Wednesday ahead of the result. The stock closed at Rs 373.1 an increase of 3.5 per cent.
