Here’s Why Indian Hotel Company Share Price is Rallying on Thursday
Indian Hotels Company Ltd (IHCL) reported a 23 per cent YoY increase in consolidated profit after Tax to Rs 349 crore for the second quarter of FY27, supported by resilient domestic hotel demand, higher occupancies and improved pricing. Total revenue rose 21 per cent to Rs 2,566 crore, while revenue from operations grew 22 per cent to Rs 2,484 crore.
18th Consecutive Best-Ever Quarter
Operating EBITDA increased 24 per cent to Rs 706 crore and the operating EBITDA margin expanded by 50 basis points to 28.4 per cent. IHCL described the period as its 18th consecutive best-ever quarter. For the first half of FY27, consolidated profit after tax rose 22 per cent to Rs 707 crore, while revenue from operations increased 18 per cent to Rs 4,824 crore.
The core hotel business remained the principal earnings driver. Hotel segment operating revenue grew 25 per cent to Rs 2,204 crore and operating EBITDA rose 30 per cent to Rs 655 crore. Standalone RevPAR climbed 28 per cent to Rs 13,860, with occupancy rising to 82 per cent from 75 per cent a year earlier. Bengaluru, Rajasthan, Goa and several other domestic markets recorded particularly strong like-for-like hotel revenue and fee-income growth.
Indian Hotel Raises Guidance for FY27
On the back of this momentum, IHCL raised its FY27 total consolidated revenue growth outlook from 12-14 per cent to 15-17 per cent led by 17-19 per cent hotel segment revenue with seasonally strong quarters ahead, high demand from social and MICE events and our strong non-like-for-like growth. Further, renovated hotels returning to operations, acquisitions and more than 30 planned hotel openings in the second half. The company had 390 operational hotels and a pipeline of 280 hotels as of September 30, 2026.
Share-Swap Arrangement
IHCL also announced a strategic transaction involving the OHL portfolio of seven hotels with 825 keys across southern India. The assets include Taj Coromandel and Taj Fisherman’s Cove in Chennai, Taj Malabar in Kochi, Vivanta Coimbatore and Gateway Coonoor. The proposed share-swap arrangement offers 25 IHCL shares for every 117 OHL shares, with the appointed date set at April 1, 2027.
The company expects the transaction to increase standalone operating revenue and EBITDA by 6-7 per cent in FY28. The deal strengthens IHCL’s presence in key southern markets and adds established hotels to its network. However, air catering remained a weak spot during the quarter, with revenue declining 1 per cent and operating EBITDA falling 24 per cent amid temporary softness in air traffic.
DSIJ's Exclusive Analysis
IHCL’s raised FY27 outlook and the proposed OHL portfolio transaction reinforce its strategy of combining domestic demand-led growth with network expansion. The seven-hotel portfolio represents only about 1.8 per cent of IHCL’s 390 operational hotels as of September 30, 2026, but management expects it to lift standalone operating revenue and EBITDA by 6-7 per cent in FY28. That expected contribution suggests the acquired assets have meaningful revenue density and could strengthen IHCL’s position in established southern markets. The transaction also complements a hotel business that delivered 25 per cent quarterly operating revenue growth and 30 per cent EBITDA growth, aided by higher occupancy and renovated asset performance.
For investors, the development is potentially supportive because it improves visibility on FY28 growth beyond organic RevPAR gains and planned openings. Yet the earnings benefit remains prospective, with the appointed date only from April 1, 2027.
The eventual value creation will depend on merger completion, integration, the performance of the acquired hotels and the dilution from the share-swap structure. Continued weakness in air catering also remains a counterweight to otherwise strong hotel-led operating momentum.
