Markets Remain Choppy; End Lower

The Indian markets have been witnessing choppy trades for last few days. On Wednesday indices like Auto and Consumer Durables dipped by 235 points and 32 points respectively. The Nifty ended down by 20 points at 7870 and Sensex was down 69 points at 25704. The indices ended the day lower by 0.25-0.23 per cent each.

The Nifty ended down by 20 points at 7870 and Sensex was down 69 points at 25704. The indices ended the day lower by 0.25-0.23 per cent each.

The advance-decline ratio ended on the negative side. On the NSE, 1227 shares closed in green; while 1319 shares were in the red.

Top 5 Nifty Gainers: ONGC closed the day with the top gains, up by 1.9%. SBI, Lupin, L&T and HCL Tech were among the other key gainers.

Top 5 Nifty Losers: Bosch was the top loser, down by 2.5%, followed by Zee Entertain, Hero MotoCorp, Bajaj Auto and BPCL.

By the end of the day, 10 out of 13 sectors remained in the red zone. Auto was the top loser, down by 235. Consumer Durables, Metal and IT were down by 32 points and 16 points respectively. Mid-caps and Small-Caps ended on a mixed note.

The Asian markets closed on a negative note. The Hang Seng market was the top loser, down by 292 points. Nikkei also ended lower by 8 points. KOSPI and Straits Times ended with marginal gains.

Buzzers: ZEEL. The stock did not cross its major hurdle which was around Rs 450 level; and also closed below the 435 mark, indicating some profit booking on the higher side. 

The Nifty index was strongly volatile on both sides. The 7900 level will be a pivot for the next trading session.
