Indices Bounce Back; NTPC surges

The Indian markets witnessed a good up-move after mid-session on Tuesday. The European cues brought in healthy buying specifically in Banking and Auto sectors. The Sensex and Nifty touched their technical levels of 25200 and 7710 respectively and closed in the green. The Sensex ended 75 points higher at 25305 and Nifty was up 14 points at 7745. Both the indices closed with a positive bias around 0.25 per cent.

The Sensex and Nifty touched their technical levels of 25200 and 7710 respectively and closed in the green. The Sensex ended 75 points higher at 25305 and Nifty was up 14 points at 7745. Both the indices closed with a positive bias around 0.25 per cent.

The advance-decline ratio ended in the negative in the closing session. On the NSE, 902 shares closed in green, while 1605 shares ended the day in red.

Top 5 Nifty Gainers: NTPC saw the highest gains of 2.06%. ACC, Tata Motors, Grasim and Ultra Tech Cement were the others trading higher.

Top 5 Nifty Losers: Aurobindo Pharma closed down by 4.2%, followed by BPCL, Idea Cellular, Bajaj Auto and Sun Pharma.

4 of the 13 sectors ended in the green. The Auto index was the top gainer, up by 57 points. Bankex also dragged the index up by 50 points. FMCG and Metal were up around 15 points each. However Mid-Caps and Small-Caps were both down by 17 points and 70 points, respectively. While Healthcare was top loser down by 133 points.

The Asian markets closed on a negative note. The Nikkei market was the top loser, down by 155 points. The Taiwan was down by 43 points, and Shanghai and Taiwan also ended on a negative  note.

Buzzer: Tech Mahindra’s Q4 net was up by 18% at Rs 897 crore. The stock saw a swing move after the announcement and closed higher by 0.8% at Rs 485. 

The Nifty index closed above the 7750 level, indicating a positive move ahead.
