Sun Pharma shines on launching of Gemcitabine InfuSMART

Sun Pharmaceutical Industries launches Gemcitabine InfuSMART, worlds first licensed, ready to administer bag for oncology treatment. The company also announced that it will roll out Gemcitabine InfuSMART in Europe. It also plans to expand across six countries Netherlands, UK, Spain, Germany, Italy and France over next few months.

InfuSMART is developed by Sun Pharmaceutical Industries’ R&D team in India. InfuSMART is a technology in which oncology products are developed in a Ready-To-Administer (RTA) bag. Until now, compounding of oncology products was done at compounding centres or compounded in hospital pharmacies. The innovative differentiated product will have a shelf life of two years.

According to Sun Pofharmaceutical Industries’ management, the launch of InfuSMART will help company to remain a meaningful player in the global oncology therapy market by offering differentiating cancer treatment solutions.

According to WHO, cancer figures amongst the leading causes of morbidity and mortality worldwide, with approximately 14 million new cases and 8.2 million cancer related deaths in 2012. The number of new cases is expected to rise by about 70 per cent over the next two decades.

The share price of Sun pharmaceutical Industries has increased by 1.6 per cent on bourses in early trades and is trading at Rs 788 on an intraday basis.

Sun Pharmaceutical Industries’ business segments include US Business, which includes Western Europe, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and other markets. The company's manufacturing operations are focused on producing generics, branded generics, specialty products, over-the-counter products, anti-retroviral and active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs). It caters to various therapy areas, such as dermatology, psychiatry, neurology, cardiology, nephrology, gastroenterology, orthopedics and ophthalmology.
