A directionless day ends with a nominal loss

The NSE 50 and the BSE 30 indices opened marginally in positive but remained flat till the end of day’s trades. There were no major triggers to take them in any direction as such. The Nifty ended 6 points lower at 8666; while the Sensex was down by 46 points at 28077. The indices ended down by -0.07 to -0.17 per cent respectively.

The advance-decline ratio ended on the negative side in the closing session. On the NSE, 21 shares closed in green, while 30 shares ended the day in red.
Top 5 Nifty Gainers: Bank of Baroda was the top gainer with 4.1% gains, followed by SBIN, Hindalco, Aurobindo Pharma and Ambuja.
Top 5 Nifty Losers: Eicher Motors was the top loser with loss of 1.8%, followed by Infratel, TCS, Coal India and Lupin.
In today’s trading session, majority of the sectors closed on the green mark. Bankex, Consumer Durables and Metals were top gainers, closing more than 100 points upward. Mid-Caps, Small-Caps and Capital Goods closed on positive note, up in the range of 50 points to 60 points. However, Auto and IT closed on a negative note.
The Asian markets were quoting in the mix. Japan’s Nikkei was positive, and closed up by 59 points. Hong Kong’s Hang-Seng was down by 85 points, while Taiwan closed on the red mark.
European markets were also trading in a negative scenario.
Derivative Analysis
Nifty future is still struggling to close above 8700 mark. If its open above this mark, 8740/ 8770 will be the major hurdles.
