Inflation eases to 14-month low @ 4.2 per cent in October

In what can be said to be the only positive news we have been hearing in recent days post US elections and Rs 500 & Rs 1000 note ban , CPI based inflation is down and is at its 14 month low at 4.2 per cent for the month of October. The inflation in the previous month stands at 4.31 per cent.

Food inflation interestingly is down at 3.32 per cent against 3.88 per cent in the previous month.  Food items have a weight-age of almost 45 per cent in the index.

 October Cereals and Products Inflation stands at 4.4% over 4.17%. Pan, Tobacco, Intoxicants inflation stands at 7.09% compared with 6.82% in September.

With the trend in inflation showing downward movement, it will be interesting to see if such downward trend continues to keep RBI on a positive note. The interest rates may be reduced further in case the inflation continues to be low.
