A global rice specialist company, LT Foods has presence in more than 65 countries and has a leading share of the market in India and the US with its brands called Daawat and Royal. The company is setting up a plant on the Maasvlakte in the spring of 2017. Rotterdam will be the first European branch of LT Foods, which has its headquarters in Delhi.

LT Foods will lease 12,000 square metres of business space from Prologis. In the Rotterdam plant, brown rice is to be processed and then distributed in Europe. The arrival of LT Foods in Rotterdam is the result of collaboration between Rotterdam Partners, the Port of Rotterdam Authority and NFIA (Netherlands Foreign Investment Agency).

According to LT Foods, the company is setting up this plant in line with its growth strategy. Further, it will strengthen position in this segment and help expand its portfolio as well. The arrival of this reputed Indian company will strengthen Rotterdam's food cluster.

Meanwhile, there are other opportunities for the Dutch business community in Rotterdam. Rotterdam’s focus with India will be on, among other things, agro-foods, life sciences and health and chemistry.

The share price of LT Foods declined 6.44 per cent on bourses in early trades and is trading at Rs 250 on intraday basis.
