US markets notched fresh records; Dow Jones breaches 19000

US markets on November 25 opened green after it celebrated Thanksgiving holiday on November 24. Dow Jones industrial average breached the 19000 mark for the first time closing at 19152.14, gaining almost 68.96 points.

Dow Jones industrial average breached the 19000 mark for the first time closing at 19152.14, gaining almost 68.96 points. The S&P 500 rose 8.63 points, or 0.4 per cent, to 2213.35; while the Nasdaq Composite gained 18.24 points, or 0.3 per cent, to 5398.92. All three indexes, as well as the Russell 2000, closed at record highs on November 25.

US markets are repeatedly hitting new highs on expectations that President-elect Donald Trump's promises of tax cuts, higher infrastructure spending and reduced regulation would benefit certain industries.

On the other hand, oil prices slid ahead of a key meeting next week between members of OPEC, where the oil cartel is hoping to reach an agreement with Non-OPEC members to cap output.US crude slipped 2 per cent to 46 dollar a barrel.
