Lupin launches Morphine Sulfate tablets, stock up 1 per cent

Lupin, the Indian pharma major, has launched Morphine Sulfate ER tablets in the US. The tablets will be available in 15 mg, 30 mg, 60 mg, 100 mg, 200 mg. Earlier, the US FDA had given approval to Lupin to sell this generic version of Purdue Pharma’s MS Cotin ER tablets of 15 mg, 30 mg, 60 mg, 100 mg, 200 mg.

Morphine Sulfate ER tablet is meant for management of severe pain requiring daily, long term opioid treatment and for which other treatment options are considered inadequate. As at September 2016, MS Cotin of Purdue reported sale of USD 282.9 million.

The Lupin stock surged 1 per cent to Rs 1505 after the announcement. The stock price is downward sloping and the stock is hovering around its 50 and 100 days EMA levels of 1488 and 1505. However, it has a trendline breakout at 1526 and 200-day EMA breakout at 1551 level. Post this, the next resistance level is at 1700.
