India’s auto exports dip 5 per cent

The Indian automobile sector did not fare well last year. The data released by SIAM indicate that the  overall exports last year stood at 34,34,322 units as compared to 36,14,851 units in 2015, down 4.99 per cent.

The Indian automobile sector did not fare well last year. The data released by SIAM indicate that the  overall exports last year stood at 34,34,322 units as compared to 36,14,851 units in 2015, down 4.99 per cent.

The three-wheeler exports stood at 2,88,732 units in 2016 as compared to 4,24,881 units in January-December period of 2015, down 32.04 per cent. The two-wheeler exports last year stood at 22,94,123 units, as compared to 24,60,471 units in 2015, down 6.76 per cent.

In contrast, the auto sectors has done well in the domestic market. The sales in the domestic market across categories have risen 9.17 per cent at 2,19,01,572 units in the January-December period of 2016 as compared to 2,00,61,389 units in 2015.

The Auto index ended in the green on Jan 16. Tata Motors, Hero MotoCorp, Ashok Leyland and Bajaj Auto were up in the range of 0.52 per cent to 2.31 per cent.
