JSW Steel Production Rises 3% in August 2026
JSW Steel Ltd reported consolidated crude steel production of 24.65 lakh tonnes in August 2026, registering a 3 per cent year-on-year growth compared with 23.82 lakh tonnes in August 2025. The company said capacity utilisation for its Indian operations stood at 88 per cent during the month.
Indian operations recorded crude steel production of 23.87 lakh tonnes, up 4 per cent YoY from 22.95 lakh tonnes in August 2025. Meanwhile, JSW Steel USA – Ohio reported production of 0.78 lakh tonnes, down 11 per cent YoY from 0.88 lakh tonnes.

The company clarified that the steel business undertaking of Bhushan Power and Steel Ltd (BPSL), a subsidiary of JSW Steel, was transferred on a slump-sale basis to JSW-JFE Steel Ltd, the company's joint venture, in March 2026. Accordingly, production figures relating to the transferred undertaking have been reduced from the previous year's numbers for comparison.
JSW Steel Capacity and Expansion Plans
JSW Steel is the flagship business of the diversified US$ 25 billion JSW Group. Over the past three decades, the company has grown from a single manufacturing unit into one of India's leading integrated steel producers.
The company currently has combined crude steel capacity of 37.9 MTPA, including 4.5 MTPA through the JSW-JFE Steel joint venture. Its next phase of expansion is expected to take combined capacity to 54.8 MTPA over the next four years.
The company's Vijayanagar facility in Karnataka has a current capacity of 19.5 MTPA and is being expanded to around 25 MTPA by FY30. Once completed, the facility is expected to become the world's largest single-location steel-producing plant.
JSW Steel also has a strategic collaboration with Japan's JFE Steel, providing access to advanced technologies for manufacturing high-value special steel products used across Construction, infrastructure, automobiles, electrical applications and appliances.

Decarbonisation Targets
JSW Steel has aligned its carbon-reduction goals with India's climate commitments under the Paris Accord. The company aims to reduce CO2 emissions from its steel-making operations by 42 per cent by 2030 and has committed to achieving net-neutral carbon emissions for all operations under its direct control by 2050.
Its other sustainability targets include achieving no net loss in biodiversity at operating sites by 2030, substantially improving air quality, reducing water consumption across operations and maintaining Zero Liquid Discharge.
