Airlines fly high in December despite demonetisation

In the middle of the big chaos and drop in demand in many sectors post demonetisation, one sector has bucked the trend and put up unmatched performance in December 2016.

The data released by Directorate general of Civil Aviation (DGCA) today reveal that during December 2016, airline passenger traffic grew by an impressive 23.91 per cent over the same month of the previous year. 

December is considered as the peak month of the year for travelling. In keeping with this trend, all national scheduled carriers flew with 80 per cent occupancy during the month. Spicejet, the leader in this segment, recorded load factor of 93.7 per cent and 90 per cent occupancy for 21 consecutive months.

IndiGo, which occupies the second spot, flew with 91.45 per cent occupancy, followed by GoAir with 90.70 per cent occupancy.
