The week gone by: The banking gainers

Indian markets closed in the red on the last day of the trading session last week. BSE Sensex lost around 274 points, a fall of 0.70 per cent, whereas the Nifty lost 85.75 points.

The BSE banking index Bankex, which opened at 21,643.52 closed at 21540.08, registered a fall of 2 per cent, all thanks to Axis Bank, which lost 6.86 per cent on Jan 20 due to its disappointing Q3 numbers. Axis Bank alone dragged the Bankex by 60.77 points or 22 per cent.

Out of the 42 listed banks on the bourses, including both public and private sector banks, the gainers in the week gone by were as follows:
 
Federal Bank was the largest gainer, gaining around 4.35 per cent. Yes Bank, Karur Vysya Bank, Jammu and Kashmir Bank, Standard Chartered Bank, Lakshmi Vilas Bank, IndusInd Bank, Central Bank of India notched up gains ranging from 0.06 per cent to 2.18 per cent.
