Nifty and Sensex closed on Monday losing 5.6 points and 32.90 points, respectively. The markets remained flat throughout the day with a negative bias. Nifty touched intra-day high of 8662.60 level at lunch hours, but it could not sustain there for a long time.

The telecom sector was in the limelight. Idea surged by 29 per cent on intra-day basis due to the Vodafone-Idea merger talks. Idea and Bharti Airtel were the most active stocks by volume on Monday’s trading session.
