On a day of much political happening, markets end flat on F&O expiry day

Indian markets witnessed a smart rally on Thursday, but lost the entire day's gains in the last half-an-hour of trading. Both the stock exchanges ended almost flat, gaining a miniscule 0.1 per cent in the trading session.
Indian markets witnessed a smart rally on Thursday, but lost the entire day's gains in the last half-an-hour of trading. Both the stock exchanges ended almost flat, gaining a miniscule 0.1 per cent in the trading session. BSE Sensex crossed the 29,000-mark on an intra-day basis.
At the closing bell, Nifty ended at 8939, with gain of 12 points and BSE Sensex closed at 28892 with increase of 28 points. On the NSE, 23 shares closed in the green, while 28 shares ended the day in the red.
All indices closed in the green, except Oil & Gas and Auto. IT index increased more than 173 points. Consumer Durables rose 64 points. However, Oil & Gas and Auto decreased 35 points and 14 points, respectively. Mid-cap and Small-cap indices increased 25 points and 15 points, respectively.
Asian markets remained negative on Thursday. Shanghai reduced 0.30 per cent, Hang Seng declined 0.36 per cent, while Nikkei reduced just 0.04 per cent. European markets were trading mixed.
Derivative Analysis
Nifty Future closed with positive bias at 8940. Going ahead, 8967/8890 will be the immediate support levels.
