In a significant development on Tuesday, government clarified that finally GST would be implemented from July 1 as all the states have agreed on the date. Interacting with mediapersons in the national capital, Shaktikanta Das, Economic Affairs Secretary also said that the disagreements among the states over the issue of fixing the date of rolling out the unified tax regime ended with this unanimous resolution. Moments after Das's media briefing, logistics stocks started shining on the stock markets on Tuesday afternoon.

However, a crucial meeting of the GST Council will kick off in Delhi on March 4 to decide on various other related agendas including approval on iGST. Afterwards the states will have to clear the sGST passing required resolutions in the respective legislative assemblies.

Earlier Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley had expressed his willingness bringing all the states together to ensure smooth roll out of GST from July 1 itself but there was no much agreement among the states on this. As clarifications surfaced from Das on Tuesday, finally the industries can expect the 'game changer' tax regime to be a reality. It may be recalled here that during the third week of the current month, the Council had cleared the final version of the Compensation Law.
