Come March 1, there will be another new chapter opened in India's telecom sector. For the first time, one operator will launch a model based on the loyalty factor of the subscribers almost following the models adopted by airline operators in the country. Introducing Jio Prime at a cost of Rs 99 for a whole year--brought to you by Reliance Jio, promoted by Mukesh Ambani.
The enrolment process which opens on Wednesday will be kept open, as of now, till March 31. Once successfully enrolled, a Reliance Jio Prime member will enjoy loads of benefits including one GB 4G data and free voice calls for just Rs 10 for a year. A Jio Prime subscriber will also continue to enjoy Jio's entertainment and multimedia services till end of the next financial year.
So what happens if you do not opt for being a Jio Prime member or the scheme ends even before you could successfully enrol--will it stop you from enjoying the 4G services provided by Reliance? Not exactly--there will be at least a couple of new monthly tariff plans made open for the subscribers and the plans may include one at Rs 149 per month and another at Rs 499 a month. There will also be plans for three months, six months and even for a year, as we reliably learn.
Armed with over 50 million subscribers and that too within three months since its launch, Reliance Jio has already forced big brothers of telecom sector, Airtel and Vodafone to slash their call and data rates. The competition has turned to fierce that every other day subscribers of Airtel, Vodafone and even Idea are receiving attractive new offers, forcing them to stay back with their existing cellular operator.
Jio, obviously, now targeting migration of such subscribers to its network as it has been relentlessly adding around 6 lakh subscribers in its network everyday.
