Employees of Tata Motors’ Sanand plant took a backfoot on certain demands. The stock price of the company declined 0.18 per cent in early trade, and is trading at Rs 461 on an intraday basis.
Around 200 workers from the company's Sanand plant met the labour commissioner there and complained that they had not received any wage hike since 2015. Another meeting has been scheduled for March15. There are around 250 permanent workers in the plant and around 3000 contractual workers.
A meeting between the workers, labour department officials and company representatives took place on Thursday afternoon to discuss the workers’ demands related to wage hikes.
As per company’s management, the labour department represents the union at the Tata plant. They have been placing their demands before the management for the last one-and-a-half years. Tata Motors is looking for a definitive solution. The average worker salary in the company is around Rs 12000 and given the rising cost of living and the prevailing wages inthe other automobile companies they need to give wage hike a second thought. At the same time Rs 25000 is what the workers are demanding.
