The list of the richest people in the world consisted of 101 Indian billionaires with Reliance Industries' chief Mukesh Ambani topping the list. Ranked 33 in the world, Ambani has a net worth of USD 23.3 billion.
In the 2017 Forbes list of the 'World's Billionaires' consisting of 2,043 richest people in the world, Bill Gates retained the top spot with a net worth of USD 86 billion, followed by Berkshire Hathaway's Warren Buffet with a net worth of 75.6 billion and Amazon's Jeff Bezos with a net worth of USD 72.8 billion.

About 20 billionaires of Indian origin are listed on the Forbes world's richest for building their fortunes in other countries across the world. Leading the category, UK-based Hinduja brothers have been ranked 64th in the world, with a net worth of USD 15.4 billion.
Only four Indian women billionaires have made it to the list: Savitri Jindal, the chairman of the OP Jindal Group (303rd rank), Smita Crishna-Godrej of the Godrej group (814th rank), Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw of Biocon (973rd rank) and Leena Tewari of USV India (1030th rank).
