The Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) has informed the government that the auto industry will face economic burden while implementing BS VI emission norms.
The BS IV norms are emission control standards set by the government to keep air pollution under control. The BS IV norms, which are based on the European regulations, specify limits on release of air pollutants using technology and equipments. The norms tend to get stringent as the levels get higher.
As pointed out by SIAM, many new technologies needs to be developed and implemented to match the standards set by BS VI.
"SIAM has informed that the economic burden for moving to BS VI emission norms for automobile manufacturers would be very significant," said Minister of State for Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises Babul Supriyo in a written reply in Lok Sabha.
