Metals drag down the markets

Indian capital markets started the week on a cautious note and tumbled more than half a per cent. Markets followed weak global cues on Monday. 

Indian capital markets started the week on a cautious note and tumbled more than half a per cent. Markets followed weak global cues on Monday. Nifty was not able to sustain above the 9050 level.

At the closing bell, Nifty ended at 9045, with loss of 62 points and BSE Sensex closed at 29237 with decline of 184 points. On the NSE, 12 shares closed in the green, while 39 shares ended the day in the red and one remained unchanged.

All indices closed in the red, except Consumer Durables. Metals index tumbled 300 points - the highest among indices. Healthcare and Oil & Gas reduced 127 points and 137 points, respectively. Auto index decreased 145 points. Consumer Durables increased 127 points. Mid-cap index reduced 37 points and Small-cap also declined 6 points.

Asian markets traded bullish on Monday. Shanghai declined 0.08 per cent, Hang Seng decreased 0.68 per cent, Nikkei also dropped 1.14 per cent. European markets were trading on negative sentiments.

Derivative Analysis

Nifty Future closed in the negative at 9067. Going ahead, 9115/8990 will be the immediate support levels.
