Investments by Indian cos greatly valued: US on H-1B visa issue

The US has said that they want to see mutual business connections remain strong and also value investment by Indian companies, days after Finance Minister Arun Jaitley highlighted the issue of the H-1B visa system with his American correspondent Steven Mnuchin.

According to a leading English news daily, Mark Toner, the State Department's acting spokesman in his press conference said that they want to see US-India business-to-business ties remaining strong.

Toner was responding to questions on the ongoing review of H-1B visas by the Trump Administration and the impact on the Indian IT companies, who are heavily dependent on H-1B visas.

The continuous investment in the US economy by the Indian companies will support thousands of US jobs and is greatly valued, Toner added.

Jaitley, during his US visit on Saturday, highlighting the contribution Indian professional and companies are making to the US economy, had elevated concerns over the H1-B visa issue with Treasury Secretary Mnuchin. Earlier, he had also raised the issue with the US Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross.
