The Government of India reportedly owes the information technology industry payments worth Rs 6,000 to 6,500 crore in connection with contracts awarded for upgradation of IT infrastructure and aggressive modernisation across many departments, reports a national news portal.

The delay in payments to IT companies for projects both at Central and state level was because of new projects.

The Employees’ State Insurance Corporation for Ministry of Labour, wideband CDMA-based portable wireless network for Defence Ministry; and criminal tracking networking system for Home Ministry, are the contracts for which the government has not yet made payments, the news portal reported.

NASSCOM, the IT industry body, had previously said that the IT industry was not paid an amount worth Rs 5,000 crore for 2015. Therefore, the IT industry is trying to find out various payment and interest rate clauses in the contracts.
