Facebook has joined hands with the Indian telecom major Bharti Airtel for setting up of 20,000 Wi-Fi hotspots across the country, reported a leading business daily.
Facebook will offer affordable internet services to the netizens though its express Wi-Fi service, said the report.
Munish Seth, regional head APAC, Facebook Connectivity Solutions, while speaking to the business daily said that the telecom major is already in the process of deploying this service.
He also said this move is aimed to address the problem of non-connectivity to the internet due to lack of awareness, infrastructure and affordability.
“The tie-up with Facebook will help in “empowering millions of Indians by bringing them online,” said Ajai Puri, chief operating officer (India & South Asia), Bharti Airtel, in a statement on Thursday.
