 MF AUMs from B15 cities soar 41% to Rs 3 trillion

Mutual funds' assets under management (AUMs) soared 41% to Rs 3.09 lakh crore by March-end, thanks to the contribution of the country’s small towns – beyond 15 cities (B15) in industry parlance – mainly due to investor-friendly initiatives by SEBI.

According to the latest data available with Association of Mutual Funds in India (AMFI), the mutual fund AUMs (assets under management) from B15 locations increased from Rs 2.18 lakh crore in March 2016 to Rs 3.09 lakh crore at the end of March 2017.

Out the total assets of the industry, B15 cities currently account for 17% and have better balance in equity and non-equity assets. However, a large part of direct investments was in the institutional investors dominated non-equity oriented schemes.

The B15 cities are those that do not belong to the list of top 15 cities. The top 15 cities are New Delhi (including NCR), Kolkata, Mumbai (including Thane and Navi Mumbai), Bengaluru, Chennai, Baroda, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, Chandigarh, Kanpur, Jaipur, Panjim, Lucknow, Pune and Surat.
