LIC Invests Rs 40,000 crore in equity markets

In FY17 Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) invested Rs 40,000 crore in equity markets and about Rs 19000 crore earned by the insurer from share sales in the same fiscal year. As of March 31, 2017, LIC in its portfolio has held 42 stocks out of Nifty50 stocks.

State-run insurance giant LIC is often considered as the backup partner for the government when it comes to investing in companies.
As of March 31, 2017, LIC in its portfolio has held 42 stocks out of Nifty50 stocks. About 10 per cent holding in nine stocks and it holds 16.26 per cent stake in ITC. While in Larsen & Toubro, Tata steel it holds 15.7 per cent and 12.57 per cent, respectively.
In this year, 24 stocks, among LIC’s favourite picks have surpassed Sensex returns which stand at 14 percent year-to-date. In FY15 LIC’s investment in equity is Rs 6,29,967 and Rs 5,95,389 crore in FY16.
