India Inc.'s fund raising via debt drops 44% in May

India Inc raised nearly Rs 33,000 crore through private placement of corporate bonds in May, 2017. The funds were raised for the purpose of business expansion and meeting working capital requirements.
India Inc raised nearly Rs 33,000 crore through private placement of corporate bonds in May, 2017. The funds were raised for the purpose of business expansion and meeting working capital requirements. However, the capital raised in May 2017 was 44 per cent lower than the capital raised in the same month a year ago.
According to SEBI, Indian companies collected an aggregate of Rs 33,389 crore in May 2017, lower than Rs 59,801 raised in the same month of the previous year. In terms of numbers, 301 issues were made in May 2017 as against 272 issues in the same month last year.
The companies had raised Rs 97,207 crore through private placement of corporate bonds in the month of January and February 2017, whereas they had raised a record Rs 6.41 lakh crore during the last fiscal.
