Metal stocks drag, realty stocks gain; RIL top Sensex gainer

Benchmark indices BSE Sensex and Nifty managed to close in the green owing to the late surge in stock prices. Sensex closed at 31,156 level, up by 52.42 points or 0.17 per cent, while Nifty closed at the 9618 level, up by 11.25 points or 0.12 per cent.
 
The PSU banks were seen rallying in the market today, with PNB gaining more than 2 per cent and Bank of Baroda gaining nearly 2 per cent in today’s trade. The BSE Bankex was up by 0.28 per cent in today's trade.

Reliance Industries was the top Sensex gainer, up by 3.30 per cent, followed by Dr Reddy's and L&T which gained 1.41 per cent and 1.40 per cent, respectively.
 
Cipla was the top Sensex loser, closing down by 2.16 per cent. ITC was down by 1.62 per cent, while HDFC slipped 1.29 per cent.
 
BSE Realty index gained 1.50 per cent and was the top sectoral index gainer. BSE Capital Goods index gained 0.88 per cent, even as BSE OiL & Gas index closed higher by 0.68 per cent.
 
BSE Metal and BSE FMCG were the worst performing sectors on Wednesday, both indices slipping by 0.68 per cent each. BSE Healthcare index closed down by 0.18 per cent.
