Nifty, Sensex close flat; Tata Power top Nifty gainer

Indian benchmark indices NSE Nifty and BSE Sensex traded flat on Tuesday. NSE Nifty closed at 9,653, down by 4 points but still above the 9600-mark, while the BSE Sensex closed lower by 14 points at 31,297. BSE Mid-cap index closed higher by 0.19% at 14,845, whereas BSE Small-cap index closed with a gain of 0.16% at 15,679. India VIX also closed higher by 0.1% at 10.6. 
 
The logistics companies' stocks witnessed a surge in intra-day trade, with Snowman Logistics closing up by over 10%, and Patel Integrated closing with a gain of over 8%. Most logistics stocks gained more than 5% on FM Arun Jaitley’s announcement that the GST roll out date remains unchanged.
 
The BSE Realty index traded in the red during the day, but turned around to close in the green. Indiabulls Real Estate with over 4% gains amply contributed to the index gains. Tata Power also closed with a gain of over 5% on speculation about the company diluting its shares in IEE through an IPO.   
 
The BSE Healthcare index was the top losing index, with Sun Pharma and Lupin pulling down the index with over 2% and 4% loss each. Other pharma stocks, including Cipla, Dr Reddy’s Laboratories, Cadila Healthcare and Divi’s Labs also declined on the bourses. Information Technology stocks also slumped in Friday’s trading session, with Infosys being the top loser in the BSE IT index.
  
Tata Power, Tata Motors, ONGC, Infosys and Cipla were the top gainers in Nifty, while Powergrid, Eicher Motors, Lupin, Bosch and GAIL were the top Nifty losers.
