Nifty, Sensex close in the red, Unitech surges over 19 per cent

The benchmark indices Nifty and Sensex closed in the negative zone, after choppy trading session on July 7. However, Nifty 50 ended above the 9600-mark at 9,665.80, down by 0.09 per cent, while Sensex closed at 31,360.63, down by 0.03 per cent, thus showing some recovery in the closing hours.

BSE Mid-cap index closed with loss of 0.04 per cent at 14941.77, in line with the BSE Sensex, whereas BSE Small-cap index ended higher by 0.26 per cent at 15830.76.
S&P BSE Realty again became the top gaining index during the closing hours of the trading session. BSE Realty index ended at 2156.51, up by 1.48 per cent. Unitech Limited was the top gainer in the realty index, up by nearly 20 per cent on reports of investor Manish Lakhi purchasing 1.54 crore shares of the company. Prestige Estates Projects and Oberoi Realty were up by over 4 per cent on the BSE and were also among the top drivers of the realty index.
S&P BSE Information Technology index was the top losing index in the closing hour, down by 0.73 per cent or 72.16 points at 9786.07. However, Tanla Solutions and Quick Heal gained in the index, up by over 8 per cent, on allotment of shares and increasing focus on Seqrite, respectively. Furthermore, Moserbaer, Smartlink, ISFT, Sasken and Zentec also secured over 5 per cent gains on the BSE.
The top gainers in the Nifty were Lupin, Reliance, Aurobindo Pharma, Bharti Airtel, Zee Entertainment Enterprises Limited, Dr Reddy, Tech Mahindra Limited, NTPC, Kotak Bank and BPCL, while Bharti Infratel, Indiabulls Housing Finance Limited, ONGC, Asian Paints, Vedanta Limited, ICICI Bank, Hero MotoCorp, Bank of Baroda, Infosys, and HDFC were the top losers in the index.
