Factory output slows in May

The IIP rose 1.7 per cent in May YoY however the growth was slower than compared to the growth figures of 3.1 per cent for the month of April.

The index of Industrial production (IIP) index suggest that the factory output slowed in May for the first time in three months.

The slowness in growth was witnessed in the non-core industries while the core industries reflected decent growth.

Mining activity fell 0.9 per cent YoY in May even as manufacturing activity rose by 1.2 per cent in similar period.

Pharmaceuticals and medical chemical industry was most impressive recording growth of 24.5 per cent production increase over last year.
