Midcap index hits record high, Idea Cellular zooms 9 per cent

Indian benchmark indices Nifty and Sensex traded with bullish undertone in Wednesday’s session. 
Nifty ended at 9,899.60 level, up by over 70 points, whereas Sensex ended at 31,955.35 level, higher by 244 points.  
 
BSE Mid-cap index closed at a record high, up by 1.01 per cent at 15258.83. BSE Small-cap index ended at 15974.57, down by 0.99 per cent. India VIX ended at 11.25 level, down by 2.04 per cent.
 
Shekhawati Poly-Yarn, Mastek Limited, Celebrity Fashions, Austral Coke & Projects, The Tinplate Company of India, S.E. Investments, Brooks Laboratories, Hilton Metal Forging, Vaswani Industries and Indbank Merchant Banking Services were the top gainers on NSE, up by nearly 20 per cent in Wednesday’s trade.
 
Rei Agro Limited, Spacenet Enterprises India, High Ground Enterprise, Jay Bharat Maruti, Prakash Steelage, Hexa Tradex, Reliance ETF Dividend Opportunities, Gujarat NRE Coke, Lypsa Gems & Jewellery and Lanco Infratech were the top losers on NSE.
 
Grasim Industries dipped around 22 per cent during the trade as an impact of demerger with Aditya Birla Financial Services. Aurobindo pharma was up by over 8 per cent as it got USFDA approval for manufacturing Sevelamer Carbonate tablets used to treat kidney diseases. Sterlite Technologies rose by over 10 per cent on the bourses on good financial results during the trade.  
 
Telecom stocks were majorly the gainers in Wednesday’s trade, with Idea Cellular rising 9 per cent, Himachal Futuristic Communications gained 6 per cent and Bharti Airtel was up by over 3 per cent. All the sectoral indices closed in the green, with S&P BSE Telecom as the top gainer, closing at 1446.19, up by 3.08 per cent. Telecom index was followed by S&P BSE Metal index, closing at 12299.66, up by 1.95 per cent.
