A proposal to set up 300 charging stations for electric vehicles along with associated infrastructure has been sanctioned by the Project Implementation & Sanctioning Committee (PISC) under the chairmanship of Secretary, Department of Heavy Industries. This project is under the aegis of the FAME-India Scheme, as announced by Power Minister Piyush Goyal.

The Government of India had notified FAME-India Scheme (Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid & Electric Vehicles in India) for implementation with effect from April 1 2015, with the objective to support hybrid/electric vehicles market development and its manufacturing eco-system. The scheme has four focus areas i.e. technology development, demand creation, pilot projects and charging infrastructure.

The FAME-India Scheme is aimed at incentivizing all vehicle segments i.e. 2-wheeler, 3-wheeler auto, passenger 4-wheeler vehicle, light commercial vehicles and buses. The scheme covers hybrid and electric technologies like mild hybrid, strong hybrid, plug-in hybrid and battery electric vehicles.

Earlier on Friday, 25 charging stations were installed at six different locations in Bengaluru under the FAME-India Scheme.
