Kharif crop sowing crosses 878 lakh hectares

It reported that rice has been sown in 280.03 lakh ha in FY18, pulses in 121.28 lakh ha, coarse cereals in 156.95 lakh ha, sugarcane in 49.71 lakh ha and cotton in 114.34 lakh ha.
According to data released by the Ministry of Agriculture, the total sown area as on Friday, August 4, 2017, as per reports received from states, stood at 878.23 lakh hectare (ha) as compared to 855.85 lakh hectare at this time last year.
It reported that rice has been sown in 280.03 lakh ha in FY18, pulses in 121.28 lakh ha, coarse cereals in 156.95 lakh ha, sugarcane in 49.71 lakh ha and cotton in 114.34 lakh ha. Sowing of oil seeds has witnessed a fall as it stood at 148.88 lakh ha in FY18 as compared to last year’s 165.49 lakh ha. The sowing of jute and mesta stood at 7.04 lakh ha in FY18 as compared to 7.55 lakh ha of FY17.
