Sugar stocks were creating quite a buzz during Monday’s intra-day trade on the BSE. The government has projected 2017-18 sugar output at around 24 MT as against 20.3 MT (YoY), reported a national new agency.

Sugar major Dwarikesh Sugar Industries was trading up by 4.25% at Rs 693.45 per share, Dhampur Sugar Mills was trading up by 2.45% at Rs 274.40 per share, Uttam Sugar Mills was trading up by 3.25% at Rs 182.50 per share, Thiru Arooran Sugars was trading up by 5.47% at Rs 61.75 per share, and Simbhaoli Sugars was trading up by 7.79% at Rs 33.90 per share.,
The consumption demand for sugar was 256 lakh tonnes in 2014-15, which declined to 248 lakh tonnes in 2015-16. In the event of a normal south-west monsoon and a decent kharif harvest in September, rural incomes may rise and result in additional demand for all basic food commodities, including sugar.
