Defence stocks in an upbeat mood

Defence stocks were creating quite a stir during Thursday’s trading session amid a volatile market ahead of the August derivative expiry.

Defence stocks were creating quite a stir during Thursday’s trading session amid a volatile market ahead of the August derivative expiry. The scrip of Astra Microwave Products was trading higher by 5.12% at Rs 131 per share on the BSE at 1005 hours. The stock witnessed an increase in volume by more than 1.46 times on Thursday. 
 
Reliance Defence and Engineering was trading up by nearly 7% at Rs 57.70 per share on the BSE at 1008 hours. The stock witnessed a spurt in volume by more than 2.58 times. Walchandnagar Industries was also trading up by 4.22% at Rs 146 per share on the BSE at 1010 hours. It opened at Rs 146.80 per share and attracted total traded volume of 1,94,750 shares and traded value of 286.20 lakhs on the NSE at 1012 hours. On the other hand, Bharat Forge declined 0.56% and was trading at Rs 1,136.8 on the BSE. The stock also witnessed turnover of Rs 1.52 crores with quantity of 13,000.
 
Meanwhile, the benchmark index Sensex was trading down by 49.96 points at 31,596 and Nifty was trading lower by 11 points at 9,875.
