Post Market Summary
The Indian markets closed the day on a positive note. The Sensex closed the day with a gain of 109 points at 16840 while the Nifty ended the day at 5056 gaining 21 points. The main contributor to the gain is the IT index closed the day with a gain of more than two percentage points. IT index was followed by Teck and FMCG indices closing the day gaining more than one percentage points. The main draggers for the day were the Realty, Auto and Banking indices. The market breadth is negative with 890 advances as against 1954 declines on BSE. On the global front, European stocks fell as German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Nicolas Sarkozy rejected an expansion of the region’s rescue fund and rebuffed calls for joint euro borrowing. Asian shares rose and U.S. index futures were unchanged.
