The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) extended the date to link Aadhaar to Permanent Account Number (PAN) to March 31, 2018 from its previous deadline of December 31, 2017 on Friday.
The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) extended the date to link Aadhaar to Permanent Account Number (PAN) to March 31, 2018 from its previous deadline of December 31, 2017 on Friday.
The announcement was made by the Finance Ministry through a press release stating that the decision to extend the deadline to link Aadhaar to PAN has come in the wake of difficulties faced by some taxpayers in completing the linking process.
However, the deadline for linking bank accounts and SIM cards to Aadhaar has been kept unchanged and remains February 2, 2018.
The mandate to link Aadhaar to PAN is part of the government’s drive to curb black money or undeclared income or assets. The Aadhaar Act, passed in 2016, was amended in March 2017 to make it mandatory to link the unique identity with PAN. Later, in June 2017, the government rolled out the requirement to link the Aadhaar with bank accounts, insurance, Demat accounts, mutual funds and pension too.
